RULE UPDATES

for the 2007 Season

 

 

Passed last season but New Starting 9/1/06

 

*     Beginning in 2007 the USTA Judges Uniform changes from Navy Blue to Black.  2007 will be a transitional year and Judges will be able to wear either Navy Blue or Black.  The 2007 Trials and National Judges staff will be required to wear black.   In 2008, all judges will be required to wear black.

*     USTA no longer offers CAS Events.  (For example AA Strut, Elite Solo)

*     An athlete may only pass 2 levels of Movement Technique and or Compulsories at any one sanctioned meet.

 

General

 

*     Two selections of dance twirl music submitted by Lee Callicut will be uploaded onto the US Twirling website for our membership to select their favorite.  This is scheduled to happen by January 1, 2007.   The membership will vote until February 1, 2007.  Based on this membership vote, the new dance twirl music will be announced and played at the 2007 National Championships in Rochester, Minnesota.

 

Nationals

 

*     Compulsories and Movement Technique will no longer be offered at the U.S. National Championships starting with the 2007 nationals.

 

Trials

 

*     Those athletes chosen to represent the US on the US World Team must have achieved the standard qualifying score in addition to placing in the top 4 places for soloists and the top place for pairs and teams.  The standard qualifying scores are:

Jr. Women       40

Sr. Men           40

Junior Men will graduate in 5 point increments. 2007 Junior Men will need 30 points, 2008 35 points, after 2008 the Junior Men will need a qualifying score of 40 points.

 

*     Participants in the US Trials who do not achieve the qualifying score will be presented with a placement award (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) instead of the medalist award (gold, silver, and bronze).

 

 

 

 

International Cup Team

 

*     When International Cup Team athletes qualify for the US Team that the athlete forfeit his/her position on the International Cup Team and will only participate as a US Team member at the World Championships.  This will be in effect for the 2008 World Championships only.

 

*     Should an "A" level position become available in a given division/event, the International Cup Team Coordinator will inform the coach/athlete of the next "B" athlete that his/her athlete will move to the "A" level position.  Once the "A" level positions are filled, then the 13th, 14th, etc. places will be contacted to fill the vacant "B" positions.

 

*     Regarding an application process for U.S. Teams & Groups to compete in the WBTF International Cup Team & Group Competition: 

 

U.S. Teams and Groups have the opportunity to submit a video to be selected to compete in the WBTF International Cup Team & Group Competition if spots on the International Cup Team are still available following the National competition. (A quality video tape or DVD of the team or group performance in a competitive-type setting i.e. performance presented in costume and in a facility that accommodates good video taping). 

 

·        The video tape or DVD must be submitted by December 1st to the U.S. Technical Advisor.    

·           Selections will be made by an appointed panel of judges. 

·        The number of teams & groups selected will be based on the following: 

                             a)  A qualifying score of 40.0 must be met 

                               b) The number of slots will be filled in the order of highest 

                                   qualifying score down until all available slots have been filled.

·        Teams & Groups selected will be notified by January 1st.

·        The cost for this application process is $300, payable to U.S.T.A. with submission of the video tape/DVD. 

·        Those selected will be required to pay the $150 deposit per member by the January 15th payment deadline.

·        Additionally, U. S. Trials Teams (with the exception of the team chosen to represent the United States in the World Team competition) will be extended an invitation to compete as an International Cup Team on a space available basis following the U.S. Trials competition. Spots will be filled in order of placement at the US Trials. Teams/Groups would need to be prepared to pay 100% of the cost of the International Cup Tour Package at the conclusion of the U. S. Trials.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pre-Trials

 

*     At the US Pre-Trials the procedure to be used in selecting the number of athletes to advance in Freestyle is:

 

                        19 or less competitors there will be one round of competition ONLY (considered

                        Finals).

                        20 or more competitors there will be two rounds of competition; the top 10 athletes 

                        from the preliminary round will advance to the semi-finals round (considered Finals).

 

*     At the US Pre-Trials, the Content Restriction penalty will be enforced and taken regardless of whether the move was performed at the regional level and regardless of whether the penalty was taken at the regional level.  The penalty will be 5.0 at either the regional level or US Pre-Trials.

 

 

*     The minimum achievement scores for advancing to the US Pre-Trials from Regional Pre-Trials (regardless of their placement at the Regional Pre-Trials):

US Team

*     A US Team member’s secondary coach may apply for primary practice/competitive gym privileges by submitting a letter with justification to the U.S. Technical Advisor.
