USTA sanctions approximately 200 local, state, regional and national twirling competitions each year, giving athletes the opportunity to demonstrate their twirling skills in an atmosphere of fun, friendship and good sportsmanship. For a complete list of competitions, visit our Calendar.
USTA-sanctioned competitions are sponsored by individuals and state and regional twirling councils, using official USTA music and USTA-certified judges. Some competitions may offer additional unsanctioned events not listed below.
Any athlete who enters a USTA-sanctioned contest must hold some type of USTA membership. The $8 “Member for a Day” is a good option for an athlete trying competition for the first-time. Learn about the benefits of USTA membership and membership levels here.
Most USTA-sanctioned contests offer the following events:
FOUNDATION EVENTS – Evaluative
FOUNDATION EVENTS – Competitive
Dance Twirl Pairs
Dance Twirl Teams
For specific information about each of these events, please view this “Read Only” copy of the USTA Rule Book.
At USTA-sanctioned competitions, athletes are grouped by age and ability. See competition entry forms (usually available through the Calendar for specific information about age groups and ability levels.
All USTA individual Foundation and Championship events (except Compulsories and Movement Technique) are performed to the Official USTA Competition Music, available on CD here through our partners at PVSNC.
