NICK MICHALARES - Deceased
•Inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1998
•One of the original Founders of the USTA
•Long time USTA Board Member
•Deemed the first “Golden Girl” at Purdue! (Then switched his allegiance and twirled at Indiana University) Nick returned to perform at I.U. Homecomings annually for many years.
•Coached full time for many years in 44 schools in southern Indiana.
•First Chair of the Judges’ Association
•Former owner of M & M Trophy Co. in Bloomington.
•Now retired
NORA SEPOTZ - Deceased
•Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1998
•Served as the head of the National Tabulation staff for over 25 years
•Staff member for 15 years in the USTA office in Seattle.
•Nora was involved in baton twirling because of her niece who twirled. She was never a coach or a judge, but she attended every northwest contest and volunteered her services as a tabulator.
•Devised the manual tab sheets and set up many of our tab
procedures still in place today.

ANN BITTENBENDER – NEW CARROLLTON, MARYLAND

•Former coach of many U.S. and World Champions, including the unprecedented 4- time World Champion Team from Italy
•Pioneer in the development and initiation of the present day USTA competition
system, known as the “set system.”

FRED J. MILLER – CENTERVILLE, OH
•Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2003
•One of the original Founders of the USTA
•First President of the USTA
•Former Director of the Miller’s Blackhawks who established a record that is
unequalled in the twirling world by winning the National Championship every year from 1956 through 1968 and coach of many past National Solo Champions
•Fred now devotes full time to his company, Fred J. Miller, Inc. which manufactures
Drum Corps and Marching Band Uniforms, color guard uniforms plus all types of equipment. His three children, Mary Lynn and his twin sons, Mark and Mike also join him and his wife Marlene (an ICON in the world of USTA in her own right) in working for the company.
