Good news for team directors! New 25% rule provides more flexibility.
The USTA Board of Directors has approved a rule change, effective for the 09-10 season, to give team directors more flexibility in changing team members and entering teams in multiple age divisions in the dance twirl and twirl team categories.
The new rule states that only 25 percent of a team’s members must change in order for that team to compete in another age category of dance twirl or twirl team competition. (The team must still meet the age requirements of any age group it enters.)
Previously, a team could compete in only one age category per event (dance twirl or twirl team) unless 50 percent of team members changed.
“The board felt that team directors needed more flexibility in being able to enter their teams in multiple age groups,” said USTA President Diana Loomis. “This is especially important for groups that travel to regional or national competitions and want to have as many opportunities to compete as possible.”
